The male monastery of the Virgin Mary of the Angels comes from the 17th century. it was founded to worship the Virgin Mary who protected the local believers against storms. Like most churches and monasteries on Corfu, this one also passed through difficult times. During the era of plague, it serves as a refuge for the ill, and so, later it was burnt down by the Brittish to avoid further spread of the disease.
